Banking in India had originated in the last few decades of the 18th century. A bank is termed as a financial intermediary and appears to us in several forms like a central bank issues the money on behalf of the government and it at the same time regulates money supply, commercial bank accepts deposits and the saving bank was there to allow the borrow and save from the members.

The banking activities have been divided into which are as follows:-

  • Investment banking

 

Most of the banks are profit making which are considered to be private banks, some are owned by the government and rest is the non-profit organizations this is the criteria on which it has been divided.

Recently there has been seen increase in the commercial activities throughout the world and which further has effected the growth in the activities of banking sector. Probationary officers are the one who are in the direct contact with their subordinates as well as their clients and who have to strike balance between the perfect services provided to their clients as well as to keep watch that it is not effecting the well being of their employees.

Bank Probationary Officers are selected on the basis of a written test and an interview conducted by Banking Service Recruitment Board. The different types of bank in India such as:-

The POs have a two years probation period during which they perform various banking functions such as loans, foreign exchange, saving and current accounts. While it has been seen that PO’s reach the senior position such as Deputy Managers or General Managers but that is only possible after couple of years. The manager would be responsible for the functioning of your particular branch and you are being considered the sole incharge of staff welfare, legal matters and profit margins. For more opportunities the candidates can give departmental exams which are held every 2 or 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility conditions for qualifying taking of exam are as follows:-

  • Candidate must have completed graduation with at least 55 % aggregate from the recognized University
  • Candidates must have computer knowledge to be eligible for this course.

 

Candidate must lie between the age group of 21 to 30 years.

 

The selection of a candidate is comprised of three stages which are as follows:-

Step 1 Preliminary Exam

Step 2 Main Test

Step 3 Group Discussions and Interview

 

Preliminary Exam

Preliminary Exam is an objective type paper which is conducted by Banking Service Recruitment Board for 2 hours which consist of the following:-

  • Reasonable Ability
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • General Awareness/Computer Knowledge
  • English Language

 

Main Test

Main Test will for 3 hours which will consist of Objective as well as Descriptive type of questions which will consist of the following:-

  • Test of Reasoning
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation
  • Marketing Knowledge
  • Test of English Language

 

Group Discussion & Interview

The candidate will have to pass both in phase I and II separately. The qualifying candidates would be called for the group discussion followed by a personal interview from here finally the candidates would be selected for the post of probationary officer.

 

How to apply?

 

The candidates who want to apply for the post of Probationary Office are required to go to any Branch of Bank and pay the amount of prescribed fees/postal charges and get that particular receipt from the branch. The original receipt should be retained by the candidate and which is mandatory to produce at the time of written test. The candidates are required to apply online through the prescribed website of the bank. No other means/mode of application will be accepted.

Pay Scale

The selected candidates are generally on probation for a period of two years. The basic pay at starting for a Probationary Officer would vary within the scale I as applicable to Officers Junior Management with that they will also be eligible for D.A., H.R.A. & C.C.A as per the rules forced.
