The Chartered Accountants have various options for pursuing dynamic, challenging and rewarding career. The Chartered Accountants are appointed Trustees and Executors, under a Will or Trust, to carry on administration of an estate or settlement in collaboration with solicitors or lawyers.

Chartered Accountancy is divided into three levels:-

  • Common Proficiency Test (CPT)
  • Professional Competence Course (PCC)
  • Final Course

Common Proficiency Test (CPT)

It is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course which is comprised of four subjects which are as follows:-

  • Fundamentals of Accounting
  • Mercantile Laws
  • General Economics
  • Quantitative Aptitude

This test is of 200 marks. This test is divided into two sessions of two hours each with a break in between. CPT is an objective type test with negative marking. Candidates are even allowed to opt for Hindi medium Question Paper Booklet for answering the questions.

The qualifying mark is 50%. A student has to remember that CPT is an objective type test with a negative marking which will indicate in the question paper for selecting wrong option.

CPT exams are held in June and December in paper pencil mode. On-line CPT exams are also conducted periodically.

Eligibility

A registered student may appear in Common Proficiency Test after he/she has appeared in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto and has complied with such requirements as may be specified by the Council from time to time.

The minimum eligibility criterion is the completion of the Foundation course after 10+2 or Graduation in commerce with 50% marks. The non-commerce graduates with Mathematics need to secure 60% marks and non-commerce graduates with subjects other than Mathematics with 55% of the total marks. Also, the candidates should not be less than 18 years of age.

The candidates willing to take up Chartered Accountant career must have good numerical ability and analytical mind to interpret facts and figures correctly. They should have logical and methodical approaches, concentration power and attention to other details.

Registration Fee

For CA-CPT entrance exam after passing 10th standard Rs.6,000/- Course fee + Rs.200/- CA Student’s Journal Subscription (this is optional but recommended by the institute) + Rs.400/- CA Member’s Journal Subscription (optional). Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of “The Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” payable at New Delhi/Kanpur/Mumbai/Chennai/Kolkata in accordance with postal address.

Application should be accompanied by attested copies proof of date of birth (duly attested by a CA/Gazetted officer/ Head of the institute) 12th pass mark statement if already passed (duly attested by a CA/Gazetted officer/ Head of the institute) and attested copy of proof of special category.
