Karnataka Engineering Entrance Exam – Karnataka CET

Engineers basically perform four basic tasks which are as follows:-

  • Research and development
  • Production
  • Management
  • Maintenance

The basic purpose of engineering is to design and manufacture the hardware of life.

Engineering is such a stream in which the individual who should possess knowledge and understanding of external constraints and general transferable skills to communicate effectively, using both written and oral methods, use of information technology effectively. Engineering has a broad scope in India as a career option. The demand for engineers in India has grown manifold with fast paced development. Of late, industry has realized the importance of furthering the scientific knowledge which has rendered possible the present day level of technology. Most of the big industrial units have their own research and development cell from this we come to the conclusion that the scope for engineers is growing in various fields. The various fields of engineering are:-

The demand for skilled engineers is expected to grow in coming years as our country is on a developing path.

The Karnataka CET (KCET) examination, since 1984, has been conducted every year by the Government of Karnataka for admission in the Engineering and Medical Colleges KCET of this state. The admission process through the KCET is not only open for medical and engineering courses but several other courses which include Dental, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Yoga, Naturopathy and Architecture.

Eligibility:-

The admission through KCET is open only to the Karnataka residents; however there are some seats under management quota which are for the non Karnataka students.

For Medical/Dental Courses:

A candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least 50% aggregate marks in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC). Those who are appearing for class 12th exams in 2011 can also apply. Also a candidate should have attained the age of 17 years but not more than 25 years as on 31st December, 2011.

For Engineering Courses:

A candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with English, Physics, Mathematics and any of the Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in optional subjects(40% for SC/ST/OBC). Those who are appearing for class 12th exams in 2011 can also apply.

For Architecture Course:

A candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Mathematics with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in all the subjects (45% for SC/ST/OBC). Those who are appearing for class 12th exams in 2011 can also apply. Candidates should have also appeared in NATA and got a minimum of 40% marks in it.

Application Forms:-

The forms for Karnataka CET will be available in schools and colleges of the Karnataka CET. For those residing outside Karnataka the form can be obtained by post from KEA by sending a Demand Draft along with the request for form. The Application Form Information Bulletin can be purchased from the schools or colleges of Karnataka in which you have studied with a Demand Draft for Rs.550 (400 for reserved category).

Cream of the crop

The selection of candidates is strictly based on the CET. Important dates are as follows:-

  • Last date of collecting Application form: February 2nd week, 2011
  • Last date of collecting Application form by post: February 3rd week, 2011
  • Entrance Examination Date: April End, 2011

CET 2011 Exam Pattern

The CET will have one hundred twenty objective type questions. 50% questions from Physics & Chemistry and the rest 50% questions from mathematics/biology. The students have to choose Mathematics or Biology. The CET is divided in to two parts, the first part lasts for hundred fifty minutes and consists questions from physics and chemistry. Mathematics is the second part for eighty minutes for engineering course.

Results

The Karnataka CET entrance is conducted every year in the month of April and in the months of May- June results are declared.
