The contribution of science to industry is phenomenal. The pursuit of science, the manifestation of which is new discoveries, has become a matter of prestige among the countries the world over. Researchers in science have been conducted to find out optimum utilization of resources, new users of articles, economy of operations and better quality control besides numerous other benefits like safety and welfare.

Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar was established by an act of State Legislature in 1997. The University has under its affiliation 288 Colleges offering Courses in Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, Hotel Management, Medical Lab Technologies & IT disciplines. The University has total strength of more than 2.5 lakh students approx. University has established 12 Regional Centres for M-Tech courses and a school of Total Quality Management (TQM) at Mohali.

The University is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and it is affiliated to University Grant Commission (UGC).

Eligibility:-

The eligibility for Punjab Technical University Combined Entrance Test 2011 is that the candidate should have passed 10+2 or is appearing for Sr. Secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry as well as Mathematics as their mandatory subjects.

For admission to B. Tech / B. Pharmacy courses, the candidate must have appeared in CET and also fulfill the following conditions:
A. He / she have passed the 10+2 /Diploma or its equivalent examination conducted by a recognized Board / University / Council.

(i) For Engineering Courses
Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with the one of the following subjects;
o Chemistry
o Biology
o Biotechnology
o Computer Science.
OR
Passed 10th or 10+2 examination with science stream and passed diploma in any Engineering Trade from Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Chandigarh or Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET),
OR
Any such examination from any other recognized State Board of Technical Education.
OR
Have passed two years certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (SLIET) shall be eligible.

(ii) For Pharmacy Course
Passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination conducted by recognized Board / University /
Council.

Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects, along with any one of the following optional
Subjects :-
o Mathematics
o Bio-Technology
o Computer Science and
o Biology
OR
Passed Diploma in Pharmacy from an institution affiliated to Punjab State Board of Technical
Education and Industrial training/Punjabi University, Patiala
OR
Any other University or any State Board of Technical Education provided that the diploma or the institute is duly approved by the PCI / AICTE.

(iii) For Architecture Course

Admission to B. Architecture course shall be based on the valid NATA Scores and marks
secured in the qualifying examination in the ratio of 50:50.
Candidate should have any one of the following
qualifications:-
(a) 10 + 2 or equivalent examination from a recognized Board with Mathematics as a
subject of study by securing 50% marks in aggregate.
OR
(b) 10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognized by Central/State Governments with 50% aggregate marks.
OR
(c) International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling with not less than 50%
marks in aggregate and with Matehmatics as compulsory subject of examination.
For SC, ST and OBC candidates the aggregate is 45% marks in the above said examinations.

3. Punjab University, Patiala
4. Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

Application forms are available in PTU Office, Ladowali Road, Jalandhar City; Directorate of Technical Education, Plot No. 1, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh and at All Engineering / Pharmacy / Architecture Colleges affiliated to PTU & selected branches of Punjab National Bank Examinees can also transfer the form by the PTU official website that is www.ptu.ac.in.

Cream of the crop

The cost of the prospectus and application form is around Rs.1000. Application form submission date would be in 1st week of April to 3rd Week of April.
The selection of candidates is strictly based on the Comprising Entrance Test (CET). The CET is generally held in the 1st week of May every year. The result is generally out in end of May and will be available on PTU website www.ptu.ac.in.

Entrance Exam Pattern of Punjab CET 2011

Exam syllabus: - It contains three parts

I. Physics
II. Mathematics
III. Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer science

Each part contains 60 multiple Choice Questions and carries one mark each. Those candidates having Punjabi origin are required top appear for the test for proficiency in Punjabi language. For admission into B. Arch course candidates are required to appear for an aptitude test as well. Aptitude test contains 30 MCQs in total and time allotted is of 30 minutes.
