What is WBUT

THE WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ACT, 2001, under West Bengal Act XV of 2000 passed by the West Bengal Legislature. The University started its academic programme, from July 16, 2001 following a Notification from the Department of Higher Education; Government of West Bengal dated June 15, 2001 through the affiliation of Engineering and Management Institutions / Colleges and has entered the eighth year of its functioning. The University is included in Section 2F and also in Section 12B of UGC and recipient of UGC Grant. University looks at technology from a broad social perspective and is organizing postgraduate courses in basic and applied sciences. The University has introduced new courses in emerging areas to develop, enhance and higher education. We strive for optimum utilization of recourses and believe in unleashing individual initiative for entrepreneurial development without compromising the collective need.
The basic objective of the University shall be to organize undergraduate courses of study in engineering and technology, especially in emerging areas, post graduate programmes in sciences, engineering, technology and management education with a view to producing scientists, technologists and managers of high caliber, capable of contributing towards the development of industries. The University is also to develop Centre of Excellence for higher studies and research in the above areas. We intend to create and disseminate knowledge to help to transform our country into acknowledge society.

Scope

The Government of West Bengal set up an expert Committee on December 31, 1998 under the chairmanship of Dr. Ashesh Prasad Mitra, Scientist Eminence, to explore the necessity and scope for the establishment of a district Engineering and Technology University in the state of West Bengal. Following an in depth review of the status and issues of technical education at the degree and higher level in the country and in the state of West Bengal, the committee observed that the facilities for technical education at the degree level in West Bengal required enhancement. The existing and forthcoming engineering and technology colleges badly needed the support and guidance of a full-fledged centralized Technological University for the growth and improvement of quality technological education.

To achieve self-reliance the country requires centre’s of excellence for evolving world-class technology. The Committee set twin objectives for a separate Technological University in the state of West Bengal:
• To serve as a centre of excellence in teaching and research , and
• To provide affiliation to engineering, technological and management institutes.

Eligibility

JEMAT

(For admission to MBA courses in West Bengal)

Eligibility

The minimum qualification for admission to MBA programmes is a Bachelors degree in Arts/Science/Commerce/Engineering/Technology /Medical /Dental/Agriculture or other professional courses from recognized universities. The candidates who expect their graduation results by September of a given year may also apply for this examination.

How to Apply?

The application form may be downloaded from the websites www.wbut.ac.in and www.wbut.net. Completed application forms are to be submitted to the University office. The current examination fees are Rs 800 for general category and Rs 400 for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates (without late fine) while the corresponding fees are Rs 1000 and Rs 500 respectively (with late fine). Appropriate certificates must be provided in case of SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates. The examination fees are to be paid in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of West Bengal University of Technology payable at Kolkata. Advertisements inviting application for JEMAT are usually published in leading dailies and also posted on the university website by December / early January.

Test Structure

The JEMAT written test will be of objective type consisting of three sections of 2 hours duration as detailed below:

JEMHA/JEMMA

(For admission to MHA / MMA courses in West Bengal)

Eligibility:

The minimum qualification for admission to MHA/MMA course is a Bachelor’s Degree (10+2+3) in Arts /Science / Commerce / Engineering /Technology /Medical/ Dental / Pharmacy / Agriculture or any other professional courses from any recognized Indian Universities. The candidates who expect their graduation results by September of a given year may also apply for this examination.

How to apply :

The application form may be downloaded from the website www.wbut.ac.in. Completed application forms are to be submitted to the University office. The current examination fees are Rs. 800 for general category and Rs. 400 for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates (without late fine) while the corresponding fees are Rs. 1000 and Rs.500 respectively (with late fine). Appropriate certificates must be provided in case of SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates. The examination fees are to be paid in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of WBUT payable at Kolkata. Fee Structure:

1. Admission Fee: Rs. 4000
2. Semester Fee: Rs. 18,000 (per semester)
3. Development Fee: Rs. 1000 (Rs.500 per semester ⨯2)
4. Library Fee: Rs. 600 (per semester)
5. Sports Fee: Rs. 30
6. Caution Money Deposit: Rs. 8000 (refundable)
